Yoga Instructors

Mary Solomon
(co-owner)

Mary has enjoyed the practice of yoga for over 18 years and has been a certified instructor since 2005. Her classes can be described as meditation in motion. Mary's love of yoga and its benifits come through in her approach - encouraging all to try it and most importantly to "Breathe!" Her classes aim to guide students through postures (teaching flexibility and strength) while learning to relax and remain mindful of the breath. Students are encouraged to honor the body's limitations at any given moment and to adjust their practice and mind accordingly.

"The breath helps bring clarity and focus to the mind. When we become more mindful of our practice, we bring this awareness to our lives and our loved ones"

Stevi Self 500 E-RYT
(co-owner)

Stevi Self brings 12 years of teaching experience and a genuine love for her students to her gentle flow, prenatal, and vinyasa yoga classes. Her experience gives her the ability to offer a wide variety of alternatives for the poses making her classes accessible to everyone who is willing to participate. She believes that the breath is the most important aspect of the practice, and for that reason anyone can do yoga even if they can't touch their toes or balance on their hands.

Stevi offers private instruction in yoga asanas, pranayama, meditation, yogic philosophy, and personal yoga therapy (for more information on yoga therapy, see the class schedule and fees page). Stevi is a member of the Yoga Alliance and the International
Association of Yoga Therapists.

Sallie Anglin

Sallie has been practicing yoga for 8 years and enjoys combining elements from Anusara, Kripalu,
and Ashtanga yoga in order to generate a unique practice that molds to the various needs and interests of each student. She believes that yoga can be used not only to strengthen the body and create more flexibility, but that it also possesses powerful emotional and mental benefits. Based on her understanding that the body and the mind are not separate, she believes that exercising one strengthens the other.

Sallie describes her classes as the practice of dynamic relaxation, a rigorous practice centered on releasing tension through a combination of energetic and gentle poses. She believes that each person’s yoga journey is unique and personal, which means that she loves working with both experienced yogis as well as students new to yoga.

Lisa Caradine

Lisa began practicing prenatal yoga in 2003 while pregnant with her son. Yoga was one of the few things that made her feel good during those months of her life, and her love for yoga grew from there.

In February 2007 Lisa lived and studied at the Sivananda ashram on Paradise Island, Bahamas. Here, she completed the Teacher Training Course, which included study in meditation, pranayama, asanas, kirtan, the philosophy of yoga, and the anatomy of the body. Upon completion of this course, Lisa returned to Oxford as a Registered Yoga Teacher and a member of The Yoga Alliance. She continues teaching and practicing yoga with a passion.

Ann Fisher-Wirth

Ann Fisher-Wirth has practiced yoga for over thirty years, since her children were babies, and has taught yoga for about eight years. For her, yoga has become a source of lasting tranquility and joy, despite experiences of aging or illness, and to offer this experience of physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being is why she loves to teach. Her classes in Gentle Yoga combine elements of Hatha, Iyengar, Anusara, and Yin yoga. Ann is also a widely published poet, and will be developing workshops in yoga and creative writing. She is honored to be teaching at Southern Star.

Susan Roberts

Susan is a student at the University of Mississippi, earning a B.S. in Dietetics. She was led to yoga in 2006 through a friend and mentor and quickly developed a strong desire to learn more about the ancient system. In June 2009, Susan completed a 200 hour teacher training course at The White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara, CA. Under the guidance of Ganga White and Tracey Rich, Susan discovered the life transforming benefits of a daily yoga practice. Her love of yoga and her playful approach makes learning accessible and fun for all. She believes that each student should practice at their own pace and respects the individuality of each student. It is her hope that every student will leave each class energized and empowered.

Clarissa Romano

Clarissa Romano is lucky enough to be the daughter of a yogini. After many years of unappreciated yogic exposure, she finally began her practice in 1998, in New York City. Since then, she has practiced continuously both in New York and at Yoga Works in Santa Monica, CA, preferring a blend of vigorous vinyasa, heart-opening Anusara, and alignment-oriented Iyengar. She is so happy to be a part of the Southern Star staff.

Elli Williams

Elli has been teaching art and dance for a number of years and was first introduced to yoga as a compliment to her training. In 2004 she began to see the complexity of the art of yoga as she studied at Butterfly Yoga in Jackson MS. Elli immediately identified with the heart oriented and alignment based tradition of Anusara and began teaching last year. Elli believes that yoga should be fun, healing and enlightening. And just like art, yoga is applicable to every aspect of life.
